What type of money is accepted in Vietnam?

                Currency in Vietnam

The official currency of Vietnam is the Vietnamese Dong (VND).

The Vietnamese Dong is not pegged to any other currency and its value fluctuates. This means exchange rates can vary.

While US Dollars are not widely accepted in Vietnam, you can exchange them at banks, exchange offices, and some hotels. However, getting smaller denominations can be challenging.

It’s highly recommended to exchange a significant amount of money into Vietnamese Dong upon or before arrival. This will make it easier to handle everyday expenses.

Credit cards are becoming more widely accepted in larger cities and tourist areas, but cash is still king in many places, especially for smaller transactions. ATMs are readily available, and you can withdraw Vietnamese Dong using your debit card.

Traveler’s checks are not commonly used in Vietnam.

To avoid potential issues, it’s wise to carry a mix of cash and cards.

I don't know anyone, is it ok to come alone?

Many women attend our retreats solo! It’s a fantastic opportunity to step outside of your comfort zone, meet like-minded women who share your passion for travel, and build new friendships. We create a welcoming and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable and truly be yourself.

How should I dress and behave in public?

Dressing and Behaving in Public in Ho Chi Minh City

                Dress Code:

                • Modesty is key: While the weather is tropical, it’s essential to dress respectfully. Cover your shoulders and knees, especially when visiting religious sites or rural areas.
                • Comfortable clothing: Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics suitable for the hot and humid climate.
                • Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes are essential for exploring the city. Sandals or flip-flops are fine for casual settings, but consider closed-toe shoes for visiting temples or formal occasions.

                Behavior:

                • Respectful attire: Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. Avoid revealing clothing.
                • Public displays of affection: While holding hands is generally acceptable, avoid excessive public displays of affection.
                • Body language: Avoid pointing with your feet, as it’s considered disrespectful.
                • Respect for elders: Show respect to older people by using polite language and offering assistance when needed.
                • Photography: While taking photos is generally allowed, it’s polite to ask for permission before photographing people, especially in rural areas.
                • Bargaining: Haggling is common in markets, but be respectful and avoid aggressive tactics.

Remember: While these are general guidelines, local customs and expectations can vary. Observing how locals dress and behave is a good way to adapt your behavior accordingly.

Are there any banned substances & materials?

Banned Substances and Materials in Vietnam

Vietnam has strict laws regarding the importation and possession of certain substances and materials. It’s crucial to be aware of these restrictions to avoid legal issues.

Here are some of the most common items to be cautious about:

                • Drugs: All illegal drugs are strictly prohibited. Penalties for drug-related offenses are severe.
                • Counterfeit goods: Buying or selling counterfeit items is against the law.
                • Wildlife products: Many animal products, such as ivory, turtle shells, and tiger parts, are protected and cannot be imported or exported.
                • Certain medications: Some medications may require a prescription or import permit. It’s advisable to consult with Vietnamese authorities before bringing any medication into the country.

It’s essential to check the specific regulations before traveling to Vietnam, as laws can change.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, consult with the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in your home country before your trip.

                Does Vietnam welcome LGBTQ+?

                LGBTQ+ in Vietnam

Vietnam is generally considered to be one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly countries in Southeast Asia.

                • Legal protections: Same-sex marriage was legalized in 2015.
                • Social acceptance: While attitudes are gradually shifting, societal norms remain conservative in many parts of the country. Public displays of affection, regardless of sexual orientation, might draw attention.
                • Urban areas: Ho Chi Minh City is more tolerant and open to diversity compared to rural areas.

It’s important to remember that individual experiences can vary. While the legal landscape is improving, societal attitudes towards LGBTQ+ individuals may differ.

How long is the flight and how do I book it?

While flights are not included, we are happy to assist you with the booking process. We can recommend reputable airlines with comfortable flight options and help you find the best deals.

We acknowledge that Vietnam is a long-haul flight for many. However, consider it an investment in yourself! The transformative experiences and memories you create will be well worth the travel time. Many airlines offer comfortable amenities and in-flight entertainment and meals to make the journey more enjoyable.

                Navigating Vietnam Without Speaking Vietnamese

Don’t worry, you’re not alone! Many travelers visit Vietnam without speaking Vietnamese. While knowing some basic phrases can be helpful, it’s not essential for a fantastic trip.

                Here are some tips:

                Language Apps and Tools

                • Google Translate: This app can be a lifesaver, allowing you to translate text and speech in real-time.
                • Language learning apps: If you have time before your trip, consider learning basic Vietnamese phrases using apps like Duolingo or Memrise.

                English Proficiency

                • Urban areas: English is widely spoken in tourist areas, hotels, restaurants, and shops, especially in Ho Chi Minh City.
                • Younger generation: Many young people have some English proficiency.

                Non-Verbal Communication

                • Gestures: Simple gestures can be very effective in conveying your needs.
                • Body language: Pay attention to local customs and body language to avoid misunderstandings.

                Guided Tours

                • We will have guided tours: This can be a great way to see the sights and learn about the culture without worrying about language barriers.

                Local Assistance

                • Hotel staff: Your hotel staff can often assist with bookings, transportation, and recommendations.
                • Local guides: We hire local guides that can provide valuable insights and help with communication.

Remember, a little preparation and a positive attitude can go a long way. Most importantly, embrace the experience and enjoy your trip!

Do I need a Passport or Visa?

Passport and Visa Requirements for Vietnam

Yes, you will need both a passport and a visa to enter Vietnam.

                • Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date from Vietnam.
                • Visa: Vietnam offers several visa options, including e-visas, visa on arrival, and traditional visas. It’s essential to choose the appropriate visa based on your travel plans and duration of stay.

I recommend checking the official website of the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in your country for the most up-to-date information and specific requirements.

                A Message From Your Host…

As a registered nurse, my life was a whirlwind of long hours and chasing dreams… on hold. Then, on a whim, I embarked on a solo trip to Dubai, and everything changed.

Immersed in the vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and luxurious experiences, I rediscovered a zest for life I never knew I’d lost. Dubai wasn’t just a vacation; it was a transformation.

Inspired, I created Over 30 & Overseas to empower women to break free from the daily grind and experience the magic of travel. But I noticed a pattern – dream vacations often stayed just that: dreams. So I took my love of planning and travel expertise and designed retreats that take care of the heavy planning load, allowing you to simply relax, recharge, and discover your own awakening.

This retreat is more than a trip; it’s a community of like-minded women ready to embrace adventure and get the break away that they deserve. Are you ready to join me?

                Sincerely,

                Dana
